The day before I left on the trip I got that
tenacious virus that's going around that clogs your head and
lungs and hangs around for a month or more. Joy. Oh well, press on! Flew
from San Diego-Atlanta-Buenos Aires. The last leg is about 10.5
hours. Got there at ~7:30 in the morning and had my cab waiting,
I'd found Dante The Driver on the Internet. Nothing like major latin city rush hour
exhaust. GAG. Got to the hotel and slept for six hours.
Next day after a great hotel buffet breakfast, Dante took me on a tour (five hours for
US$40) which is where I got all the LaBoca, church and 1/2 the
park shots.
Next day/night was the concert. The next day
I wandered around taking pictures amid flagging energy, fever
and clogged head. I didn't get around as much as I wanted, nor
did I get all the shots I wanted, but I'm pretty happy with what
I got.
It was good to get out of the US for a while.
Tango in the streets in LaBoca, birthplace
of Tango.
The
bright buildings of LaBoca, seen in all the travel guides.
Walkup to the viewpoint of the buildings
to the left.
Me
in LaBoca, the white clad figure behind me is a street
performer. Taken by my cab driver, Dante.
Shooting
up the tourist camino of Florida St.
LaBoca
again, odd to see a street tango performer of oriental
persuasion.
The
dog charges of these walkers were very well-behaved. All the
males have balls.
Tango
art in LaBoca.
The
sign of the sandwich shop next to my motel.
$7

beef is AWESOME.
Basilica
Neustra, built in 1732.
The
place in the middle really stuck out, this was a driveby
shooting.
Recoleto
street scene, I call it Blue Dog wall. The dog on the
sidewalk made the shot.
Dining
room of my motel.
Congress
building with the "post bills here" placard in front. Those
green "post here" signs are all over the city.

de Mayo casualty.
Casa
Rosada or the "Pink House" naturally it was raining when I
got to the park, this was taken from the shelter of a tree.
Congress
dome detail.
Breakfast
nearing its end at the Claridge Hotel.
Hip
shot. :)
Argentine women are
GORGEOUS. How they stay so slim eating steak at midnight I
can't figure out, must be small portions.
Beagle
bay boys. If one of my dogs was in this group the fence
would not be standing.
Colorful bar in Recoleto.
Just another downtown bum.
Contrasting building styles.
Supports
for big old tree and street performer jumping into the shot.
The not-so-glam side of tourist Florida
St.
Making out in the park.
Church?
No, the ceiling of an upscale shopping mall!
Great work.
Cop and bellhop in front of the Claridge
hotel. All the BA cops are federal, there is no city police
force.
LaBoca courtyard scene.
Random
Florida street shots.
This
is the George Washington of Argentina, but his name escapes
me.
I waited around until the pigeons
returned.
Inside Basilica Neustra.
Pedestrian bridge, or Puenta De La Mujer across the old
docks. The moved the docks closer to the river, so now tons
of condos and shops are going in to fill in the space.
A
park near the Sheraton, I call this one Suicide Garden Path
for the graffiti on the walkway wall.
Tucuman, the street my motel was on.
Loved the paintjob on this house. Driveby shooting.
More contrasts.
Argentine flags along the Sheraton.
Working
hard at the construction site.
Lone
cop outside the Basilica.
Veintecinco de Mayo con bird residents.
I
don't know why they had smocks on, but I shot them anyway.
Another
hip shot. :)
Ladies, ignore that
clicking sound behind you.
One
of the oldest cafes in Buenos Aires, I neglected to take a
shot of the front so I could recall the name.
Bad photographer!
The
posh new walks along the docs near the marina.
She
was across from me in the park and looked to be nursing a
headache...
...
he was next to me and certainly would have a headache when
he came to.
Just a
license plate.
Shooting a wedding shooting.
Great remote flash rig.
Rubble
walk.
View from the room.
Dante,
my driver setting up his next tango tour and trying to keep
the bee out of his coffee.
I'm
not sure who these hombres were, I wandered into the door
thinking it was the bathroom, then saw the navy uniform. ?
One
mans trash...
Wreaths from the Portuguese and Danish embassies adorned
this statue.
Silver street performer making up for the Sunday gig.
Widest
street in the world, Avenido de 9 Julio and the obelisco
More Plaza de Mayo buildings
Statues, graffiti and politics.
Lobby of the Claridge Hotel
Drugstore and Bar, my kind of place!
Some
street someplace in the city.
Crossing the world's widest street.

of the Claridge Hotel.
Conpiteria Del Molino, I think.
I
liked the windmill doohickey on it.
More well-behaved perros.
Spot
the tourists? I wandered a park at the end of Florida street
just shooting urban stuff.
The
tulip sculpture that opens in the morning, closes at night.
